A Time-Tested Practise Of Healing

The origins of acupuncture date back at least 2,500 years to China. There and throughout the rest of Asia, acupuncture is deeply embedded in the local medical traditions.

In recent decades, scientific research has begun finding explanations for how acupuncture works and affirmed its effectiveness in treating a wide range of conditions.

Energy And Homeostasis

My approach to acupuncture considers many of its different practises, including Five Elements as well as Stems and Branches traditions, drawing on what is necessary for the unique needs of my clients.

While these traditions place their emphasis in different places, at their core is the idea of the flow of qi.

Flow of qi, also called flow of energy, can be understood as homeostasis, our ability to maintain internal stability in the face of changing external conditions. Homeostasis balances deficiency and excess, hot and cold, underactive and overactive immune response, and so on.

Illness develops when the flow of qi is disrupted. Acupuncture restores the flow of qi, that is, promotes homeostasis, prompting self-healing.

Recent scientific work has shed light on processes through which acupuncture restores homeostasis:

Pain Regulation

fMRI shows that central nervous system pathways involved in pain processing and regulation are engaged.

Balancing Of Body Chemistry

Shifts in neurochemical markers indicate neuro-endocrine-immune effects.

Circulation Improvement

Thermal imaging and Doppler ultrasound demonstrate increased regional blood flow.

Inflammation Reduction

Serum biomarker findings suggest reduced inflammation.
